10u Purple Beats Carrick 9-7

After Saturday’s season opening loss to BWAA Gray, the Purple team looked to even their record with a matchup against the Carrick Cardinals.

BWAA starter Nathan took the mound and after working around a couple singles to give Carrick an early lead, the Bulldogs would get it right back. After a walk to Dacien and a single by Dylan, Nathan would help himself with a 2 run single to cut the deficit to 3-2. Mikey would single him home later and it was tied at 3 after 1. “Big red” would then strike out all 3 hitters to get the bats in position to get a lead they would never relinquish.

Mason got things started with a walk and advanced on Drew’s ground out. Walks to Ryan B and Luke B would bring Dacien up and he cleared the bases with a clutch hit. Luke T singled him home and it was 7-3. It would have been worse but Nathan was robbed by the Cardinal first baseman to end the inning.

Devan would come on to pitch the 3rd and impressively struck out all 3 hitters. BWAA would tack one on in the 3rd when Mikey singled and was chased home on a single by Ryan G. Devan took the mound again in the 4th. Luke B and Dacien made good defensive plays to help their buddy out but Carrick scored one and loaded the bases. Coach Marc went to Luke T to get out of the jam, and that he did, striking out his batter to escape the inning.

A scorless inning for The BW and Luke T again took the mound. Working around a leadoff walk, Luke struck out 2 of the next 3 batters to keep the score at 8-4.

Dacien led off the 5th with his 2nd hit of the night. Dylan said “oh yeah?” and had his 2nd hit as well. Luke T says “hey I want in on this party” and drops his 2nd hit to score Dacien. Devan would hit a shot which the pitcher snagged, and 1 batter later the inning was over, leaving Tyler on deck, hungry for his next at bat!

Dylan would take the mound for the save and after striking out the first batter, Carrick would put a couple men on base. Dylan struck out another and after 2 more hits things would get interesting, but a quick strikeout ended all Carrick’s hopes at a comeback.

Bulldog pitchers ended up with a ton of strikeouts – Nathan 6, Devan 3, Luke T 3, and Dylan 3, while as a team BWAA would strike out just 8 times.

Next up, Tuesday night at Brookline!
