10u Travel Rallies to Defeat Brentwood

21 May 2018 by Joe bramson

Luke B capped a 2 run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning with a bases loaded walkoff single to give the 10u travel team a 5-4 win over visiting Brentwood. The win moves the Bulldogs to 2-1 on the season.

Starting pitcher Dylan would allow a couple hits in the first but with the help of his defense limit the damage to just 1 run. A nice relay to cut down a Sharks runner headed to third followed up by a slick play by Luke T at short would bring the boys in purple to bat trailing just 1-0.

Nathan came up with 1 out and would hustle out an infield single despite a tremendous effort by Brentwood’s outstanding first baseman, Hudson.  Nate would be erased as part of a double play and Brentwood led 1-0 after 1.

In the 2nd inning Dylan would once again give up a couple hits. But with 2 outs, on a single to Joey in the outfield, Brentwood would again try their luck, but the relay throw to Dacien, who fired to Nathan at 3rd, would cut down yet another runner to keep the score the same.

Dylan would try to get things going with a 1 out single and a couple steals but BW couldn’t take advantage and remained down a run after 2.

BWAA rookie Landon strode to the mound for the third inning, getting good play from his middle infielders Dylan and Dacien to go around a strikeout.

The home team would make a little noise in the bottom frame. Landon worked a leadoff walk and after a couple outs Gavin and Luke B would draw walks to load the bases, but Nates shot up the middle was snagged by the Brentwood pitcher to keep the score at 1-0.

Landon gave up a leadoff single before walking a pair. A couple strikeouts later,  the righty fireballer would lose a couple batters forcing in a couple runs before turning the ball over to Nathan, who quickly struck out his hitter and leaving the score at 3-0.

After another quiet offensive inning, Nate took the hill and made a nice play to start it off. A 1 out single would prove meaningless as he would bear down and retire the next 2 batters swinging.

The Bulldog bats would come alive in the bottom of the 5th. Luke T would get it started with a leadoff single. With 1 out Landon would take a pitch off his foot and the boys were in business. Joey came up with an Rbi single to score Luke T followed by RBI singles from Mike P and Gavin, and the score was tied at 3 after 5.

Nathan would set the Sharks down again in the 6th, with the final play being a nice play by Luke T at 3rd and an even better scoop by James to end it.

The boys in purple would also have a quiet 6th, just a 2 out walk by Dacien, and we were headed to the 7th still tied.

Luke T took the mound and walked the bases loaded. A sac fly to Mikey P in left center would plate the go ahead run, but Luke then settled in and mowed down the final 2 batters.

Mike G started the rally with a 1 out walk. A single by Landon coupled with a throwing error would put the Bulldogs in position to at least tie the game with 1 out. A strikeout would be followed by a walk to Mikey P and then Gavin stepped to the plate and delivered an infield single to tie the game. Before everyone could calm down, Luke B followed with his game winner sending the Bulldog faithful into a frenzy with an exciting come from behind victory!

In what is becoming the norm for BWAA teams, it was a tremendous team effort as 8 of the 11 players would collect hits  and as a result every player was awarded a Bulldog helmet sticker!

Coach Dave from Brentwood would call later after the game and serve many compliments to the Bulldog squad. He said our defense is much improved over the past and everybody on our team can hit the ball hard. Great job Bulldogs!

The next game is a makeup game at home with Brookline on Wednesday at 6pm. Hope to see everyone there!
